Serves: 6, Preparation Time:1 hour, Cooking Time:15 minutes

Preparation:

  • In a mixing bowl, beat the egg, sugar, and softened margarine at room temperature. Gradually add the sifted flour and water, kneading until you obtain a smooth dough.

  • Gather the dough into a ball, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rest for half an hour. Meanwhile, prepare the syrup by boiling the sugar and water in a saucepan.

  • Add the lemon juice and boil for a few more minutes. Remove the syrup from the heat and let it cool.

  • Roll out the dough on a floured surface into a thin sheet. Cut the sheet into strips about the width of a finger and shape them into braids.

  • Fry the braided dough in hot oil until golden. Drizzle the cold syrup over the hot fried dough.

  • Serve warm.

Ingredients:

  • 1 egg

  • 1 teaspoon granulated sugar

  • 5 g margarine

  • 1 small coffee cup of water

  • 1 cup flour

  • Vegetable oil for frying

For the syrup:

  • 2 cups sugar

  • 2.5 cups water

  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
