Preparation:
In a mixing bowl, beat the egg, sugar, and softened margarine at room temperature. Gradually add the sifted flour and water, kneading until you obtain a smooth dough.
Gather the dough into a ball, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rest for half an hour. Meanwhile, prepare the syrup by boiling the sugar and water in a saucepan.
Add the lemon juice and boil for a few more minutes. Remove the syrup from the heat and let it cool.
Roll out the dough on a floured surface into a thin sheet. Cut the sheet into strips about the width of a finger and shape them into braids.
Fry the braided dough in hot oil until golden. Drizzle the cold syrup over the hot fried dough.
Serve warm.
